Roads and Repairs
There are more than 823kms of sealed roads and 1368km of unsealed roads within the 91ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø boundaries. Keeping these roads in good condition involves ongoing maintenance and repairs.
There are four types of sealed road repairs:
- Patching - filling of potholes or excavated areas in the asphalt pavement. Helps control further deterioration and expensive repairs
- Slab replacement - replaces only sections of the road that are chipped, cracked or uneven without having to replace the entire road.
- Road resealing - placing a chip seal over top the existing surface
- Road resurfacing - removing the old asphalt and replacing it with a new layer to restore the road to a smooth condition.
There are two types of unsealed road repairs:
- Smoothing - lightly rework the gravel without digging in too far into the sub-base. This is done when the road has minor damage of is just worn down a bit from use.
- Reshaping - the gravel is reworked to the sub-base to eliminate large pot holes and rebuild a flattened crown.
