Local Heritage
The 91ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø (CGG) has emerged from a rich heritage formed by historic buildings, landscapes, cultural records and traditions. The stories of our community therefore form an integral part of our local identity. Valuing our heritage helps us learn more about ourselves and gives us a sense of belonging and place.
Heritage places may be natural or man-made and gives a sense of place, identity, and future direction.
The CGG Heritage Strategy is a key document which links community aspiration with clear goals and strategies for managing the City’s valuable social, cultural and natural heritage.
The City supports various heritage activities on behalf of residents from a broad geographical area covering the Geraldton, Greenough, Mullewa and Walkaway communities. Heritage Services are coordinated by the Manager Libraries and Heritage, based at the Geraldton Regional Library.
Our Heritage services include:
- Assistance with historical reference enquiries and family history research
- Provision of an extensive local history collection, containing books, photographs, maps, journals, serials, assorted ephemera, and free access to the online family history databases such as Ancestry.com
- Heritage Services Bookshop
- Information / Referral to other 91ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø Departments
