Australia Day will see the Geraldton Foreshore, QEII Seniors and Community Centre and Doc Docherty Pool play host to a range of events for the whole community.

Following the success of last year’s event, the Citizenship and Community Citizen of the Year Award Ceremonies will once again be held indoors.

91ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø Mayor Jery Clune is looking forward to seeing the community come together to enjoy the occasion.

“Australia Day can be emotive for many in our community, and this has been carefully considered in our planning of these events,” he said.

“We will pay tribute to the Community Citizen of the Year Award nominees and welcome our newest Australians once again in the air-conditioned comfort of the QEII Centre.

“I can’t wait to join the seniors for the traditional afternoon tea and concert at the QEII Centre before heading to Stow Gardens on the Geraldton Foreshore for live music, food trucks, wheelchair basketball and fun activities for the whole family.”

Events along the Geraldton Foreshore will commence at 7.30am with the Champion Bay Challenge Swim followed at 8am by a kid’s beach party, market stalls and the Aussie Icons Car Show as well as and live music on the Market Stage between Dome and the Jaffle Shack.

Geraldton’s event will also feature live music at Stow Gardens starting at 4.20pm with a Welcome to Country from Kathleen Councillor followed with performances by Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Sunbrae Grove, and headliners The Witchy Djypsies.

The event will culminate with the Europcar WA Fireworks Show scheduled weather permitting for 8.30pm, updates will be provided regarding any changes to the fireworks via the City’s Facebook page.

In Mullewa, community members will be able to hang out at the Doc Docherty Pool from 7.30am where there will be a free barbecue breakfast followed the Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

“I encourage everyone to check out the schedule and make the most of what is happening in Greater Geraldton this Australia Day,” added Mayor Clune.

The Australia Day event on the Geraldton Foreshore is an alcohol-free event that will take place on Sunday 26 January from 7.30am – 8.30pm.

The Citizenship and Community Citizen of the Year Awards Ceremonies will take place at the QEII Centre between 10.30am - 12.30pm on Sunday 26 January.

The 91ÊÓƵAPP¹ÙÍø would like to thank valued sponsors Europcar WA, the National Australia Day Council.
